Bikes for Migrant Workers, Burford, March 24th

Speakers: Bikes for Migrant Workers, Saturday,  March 24th – 2 sessions

Interested in fixing bikes or in learning how to fix bikes?
Have a workshop space you’re not using? Need some high school co-op or volunteer hours? Looking to get more involved in your community?

Guest speakers, Mark Gaudet and Terry Weiner retired to Niagara, and share their bike repair skills by refurbishing bikes for Seasonal Agricultural Workers in the Niagara region. Since 2016,  they have worked out of their garages to deliver 40 refurbished bikes to farmworkers. The project is supported by local businesses, bike stores, sponsors and volunteer bike mechanics.

Come  learn how our community could set up a similar program. The project would require bike donations, a garage to house a bike repair station, volunteer bike mechanics, high school students and volunteers wanting to learn bike repair skills, and outreach to let farmworkers (Caribbean and Latino) and  farm owners know about the programme. Please contact us if you have any questions. This event is part of a Creating Welcoming Communities - Welcoming Our Neighbours Project by the Langford Conservancy.
